MICHAEL P. CARBONE is a mediator, arbitrator, special master and referee. His dispute resolution practice has been built over a period of more than 25 years and covers a wide range of fields.
He handles commercial and residential real estate, in which he deals with purchase and sale transactions, commercial leasing, financings, condemnation, distressed properties, tenancies in common and many other kinds of issues. He resolves various kinds of commercial cases, employment claims, construction claims and defect cases, estate and trust matters, insurance issues, legal malpractice, corporate and partnership disputes, and personal injury cases.
Michael is known for his exceptional combination of transactional and litigation experience, which enables him to handle challenging and difficult cases and to manage complex litigation. In his capacity as a court-appointed referee he has undertaken a wide variety of responsibilities, including sales and appraisals of real property, the adjudication of trust accounting and administration matters, and resolution of partnership issues.
He holds his B.S. and J.D. degrees from the University of San Francisco, where he was a member of the Law Review and the McAuliffe Honor Society. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1966.

He is a founder and past president of The Mediation Society, and a member of many other professional organizations, including the Northern California International Arbitration Club, the Academy of Court Appointed Masters, the Dispute Resolution Section of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of California and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
He is a frequent author and speaker on alternative dispute resolution issues. He publishes a monthly newsletter entitled "Resolving It" which provides timely advice on strategies for successful mediation and discusses current issues, such as reforming the commercial arbitration process and managing E-discovery.
